Stories of Random Acts of Love
Friday, March 05, 2010

Our love project for March is Random Acts of Love. This project is a challenge to give away unbound love. Unbound love is a love that stretches us, a love that is unsual and possibly uncomfortable. It could be that you offer love to someone you don’t know, don’t usually love, or simply an act of spontaneous love. It’s a once a week challenge for the month of March that we hope will become a normal part of our lives. Inspire others to love by sharing the random acts of love you give away each week by leaving a comment below:

03/10/2010 Tonight our community group decided we would not meet for a study but instead went to the home of someone to pray for them as they are in a medical situation that could make a major change in their life.  It was so rewarding to hear each person pray beautiful words for this person.

While passing down a cube row, I overheard a person that I don’t normally work with having a very emotional conversation.  She was on the verge of crying due to frustration in her new job’s tasks.  I stopped, offered a consoling word about how her reaction was normal when major change occurs in life, and prayed for God’s blessings and peace in her accepting her new tasks.  Two days later, she stopped by to say that she is now doing much better….. God has given her the peace!

I brought baked goods to a person I don’t “usually love”.  It has changed my attitude about them-remembering that God loves us all.

Last night my wife and I were eating out and I ran into an old high school buddy who we’ve seen there on several occasions. Knowing his life and financial struggles we gave him money as we were leaving. He was blown away. I told Him God has been kind to us and we wanted to be kind to him. He said the money was going to help him pay his car payment he was struggling to make.

I was hanging out with a friend last night and her mom is pregnant. She told me her mom didn’t have maternity clothes because she had given them away a while ago thinking she wouldn’t have anymore children. Her mom doesn’t really have a lot of money to go buy clothes, so we went to the mall and bought her mom some maternity clothes!

MAde my trip to Starbucks drive thru and paid for the car behind me.  The woman at the window of Starbucks commented today that it is so very kind of me to do this so often and, I said it is nothing but, please tell the people in the car behind me it is my Random Act of Love for them.  I cannot tell you the absolute joy that comes over me when I do something like this.

Got a call from a friend today and, she asked if I would pock her up and hang out for a bit, get coffee or something while her car was being fixed rather than her waiting 2+ hours at the shop.  Had such a great time…imagine, a call from her made my day.

Met some family members for dinner tonight and, I looked around the restaurant and picked a table with a couple eating.  I asked the waitress what their tab was, she told me and, I paid for it.  When the waitress questioned me, I said it is a Random Act of Love and, I wanted to bless people I didn’t know.  She was so impressed, she excited told us she was going to do the same thing at lunch tomorrow.  Wow, what a powerful time.

Sometime last week I decided to buy lunch for my office. We usually get lunch together or someone will run out and buy it. So I told them I would pay for it..they all seemed pleased and asked what brought this on. I told them it was a Random Act of Love and that my Pastor was encouraging us to spread Gods love through out our life. God returned the favor because later on during the week one of them bought me lunch. Just goes to show that if you give you shall receive.

Last night my family and I were out to eat and we ran into a guy we met there months back. We remember him sharing his story of going to prison and how’s he was trying to make things better. He’s into music and is now releasing a CD. When we were leaving we gave him some money. He was shocked. He asked why and we said God has been good to us and we want to love you. We shared how God loved him and we wanted to be an encouragement for him. He said he felt bad taking our money and we said it’s not our money it’s God’s and God cared about him. He was totally taken back. We’re going to follow-up with him.

As a last minute decision, I went out for dinner and, the minute I sat down, I looked up and said to the people I was with, I am going to pay for the dinner for the people at that table and, sure enough I did.  I asked the waitress not to tell the people anything at all until I was gone but, for some reason she went to the table and motioned to where I was sitting.  The woman came to the table with her little girl and thanked me for what I did and she asked me why I did it and, I said because the Lord has blessed me and I wanted to bless you.  Powerful feeling last night!

Tonight I had a chance to hang out with some people who have mental health challenges. While I was there I ran into a friend from high school who is a part of the group. Though it was way out of my comfort zone for sure I met some great people with big hearts. My next goal is to take my friend out to hear his story.

twice this week (Monday and Thursday) we saw cars broken down on the middle of Route 7 so we helped them push their cars to the side of the road.

I took someone out to dinner that I didn’t know very well. I’ve been wanting to build a friendship with them for a while. I was able to hear their life’s story. Their life is full of broken relationships, depression, divorces, hopelessness, time in prison, loneliness, and even homelessness—all due to alcoholism. I felt true compassion for them. It was clear that money is a struggle for them right now. I paid for the meal, filled up their vehicle with gas, and gave them a $50 gas card for the future. My friend was truly surprised and speechless. I told them that I was simply doing what Jesus did when He was with people…blessing them and meeting their needs. I can’t wait to continue a friendship with them…we plan to get together soon!

Gave a coworker a ride home from work, 30 minutes the opposite direction of my home.

I bought parfaits for everyone in my office. I told them that I felt blessed and wanted to bless them.

I went to the store today and, made a quick decision to go to one not on my plan.  As I left the store I saw a mother with three little ones, ages ranging from 2-5 and a wagon full of merchandise.  I offered to help with her purchases and watch the children as she loaded them one by one into the van.  Come to find out, she had another one at home.  This sweet lady couldn’t thank me enough for helping her out…what a difference SHE made in my life today.
