$2,200 = 10 Boys with Hope
Thursday, February 03, 2011
As many of you know our December love project was “Roof for the Refugees”. This was a project to help rescue and restore 10 boys in Nicaragura from slavery (sexual, labor). The cost to provide each of these ten boys a bed, mattress, sheets, blankets, a pillow, clothes, toiletries, and school supplies was $150. We’re very excited to say that we raised $2,200. Because of rich generosity these boys will now have a chance at hope. A chance at a new start. Thank you to all who gave. We will keep everyone updated as to the progress of the rescuing and restoration efforts. Keep loving!
388 Brown Bags & 8,000 pounds later…
Tuesday, November 23, 2010
More love, more life! This is the best way to describe our 250 Brown Bag love project. Our orginal project goal was to fill 250 bags with groceries to meet the needs of 50 high-need families in Loudoun County but our 250 Brown Bags turned into 388 bags because of the tremendous generosity of Common Ground Church and the community. Because of the overwhelming amount of food collected we were able to help well over 50 families. The life brought about by this amazing love was tangible as each family received at minimum one turkey, thanks to Madigan Construction, and six bags of groceries including a Thanksgiving bag filled with mashed potatoes, stuffing, corn, etc. However, these families received way more than food, they received hope, comfort, and encouragement. For me the life that comes from love was seen in the teary eyes of the first man I brought food to who didn’t speak English, felt in the hug and tears of a grandmother who is raising a down syndrome grandson alone while battling cancer, seen in the smile of a woman who said her family had just had their power turned back on, and heard in the story of a man who had recently become unemployeed. Believe me when I tell you love brought life to these families. Of course this is just my story. Each person who helped deliver the food could tell their own stories. This project, the life that these families received, did not happen by accident. This happened because a community of people chose to lay down their lives. It happened because people believed in the transforming reality of love. For two months I’ve seen and heard stories of people who gave themselves to make this project a reality. There were those who gathered to dream and plan, others who organized the collection of food in their neighborhoods, business’s, and sports teams, those who stood for hours at a local grocery store, young people who went door to door, those who sorted and boxed the food, the well over 100 people who gathered at the packing party to fill bags for delivery, and those who spent hours walking house to house delivering food. More love, more life. To all who played a part THANK YOU! Jesus, thank you for allowing us to be a part of your plan to bring life to the world. Your name was made famous. You were made famous through the hands and feet of your people who have felt and know the love you gave them. Now on to greater love…
6th Annual Walk for Shelter
Tuesday, September 21, 2010
This past Saturday Common Ground Church took the lead on putting on the GSA Walk for Shelter and there was huge success. 269 people came out to walk on behalf of the homeless and near homeless in Loudoun. 42 people came out from Common Ground. As a church family we provided moon bounces, sound, lots of free food, face painting, and almost all of the volunteers for the event. God was honored by the love of His people for those neediest among us. We were His hands and feet. Our hope is that we will continue to walk day to day on behalf of the homeless an near homeless in Loudoun by giving clothes to one of the four GSA thrift stores, volunteering, giving financially, and praying. Let’s continue to make God’s name famous through great acts of love. For more information on how to help visit the GSA website, www.loudounhomeless.org.
Sole Love Final Tally
Tuesday, August 03, 2010
Back in February we led the Sole Love Project to collect shoes for people in need around the world. The final results are in! We collected 467 pairs of shoes. It’s exciting to see such love being displayed by God’s people but more importantly we celebrate the fact that now 467 people will have a pair of shoes. Thanks God for allowing us to be a part of caring for those in need.
FEED 30 Results
Thursday, June 17, 2010
The goal of the Feed 30 love project was for Common Ground to help R.O.C.K. (Recreational Outreach to Community Kids), a Town of Leesburg outreach program, provide food to help thirty families get through the summer. The children of these famlies receive free or reduced lunches during the school year but without help they would have been left scrounging for food or going hungry in the summer. In two weeks Common Ground and the community were able to collect 242 full bags of food and were able to help over 60 families. Huge thanks to everyone who gave, collected, organized, and packaged food. This is yet another example of how love leads to life.
